Viticulture Series #3: Veraison MEMBER

Sarah's Vineyard Viticulture Series: Veraison

Friday, August 30th from 11:30 - 1:30 pm

During our four-part series this year, you will have the opportunity to follow the annual stages of grapevine growth from the dormant season to the final days of harvest. During this series, you will learn about the development of the vines and the important maintenance practices used to grow excellent-quality grapes. The goals are to have fun and explore the vineyard with the Vineyard Grower and Winemaker.

The third session will be held Friday, August 30th from 11:30am-1:30pm with the discussion focus on the stages of the ripening process and the process of engustment, where the berries begin to soften. We will learn about the factors that control the onset of veraison and discuss what is done in the vineyard leading up to harvest to help produce quality grapes.

We will begin with a short walk through the vineyard to discuss and observe some demonstration techniques from our vineyard foreman including crop thinning, netting, and irrigation practices. Following the tour, we will gather to celebrate a job well done with a delicious picnic by Chef Sergio paired with Sarah's Vineyard Estate wines.

Vineyard Grower Frances Calderon and Winemaker Jonathan Houston will answer all your vineyard and winemaking questions.

Each series will include a picnic lunch and a paired wine tasting. We look forward to exploring the vineyard with you!
