Pronounced “new-ee dawn-fair,” the name Nuits d'Enfer suggests a night of passion and no-rules possibilities. The 2016 NdE earns its reputation and black-label Reserve status as an untamed Bordeaux Right Bank-style blend that pairs brooding Cabernet Sauvignon to pedigreed Merlot.
On the nose, look for notes of fennel and sage among the plum and cherry aromas. On the palate, plum, cherry, and spice rack flavors combine with a bit of berry, leather, smoke, and beefy backbone notes from the Cabernet Sauvignon. The mouthfeel is dense and the tannins are elegant while still young and fresh; the finish is long and lively. A great match for pork - think braised pork belly with a fruit glaze, or just about anything adventurous off the grill.
